What are eating disorders?
There are several types of eating disorders. The best known are Anorexia and Bulimia but there is also Binge Eating Disorder.
Any of them implies a type of dysfunctional relationship with food that ends up fulfilling a function of emotional regulation.
In the case of anorexia, a significant reduction in weight is manifested, even with loss of menstruation in some female patients. In bulimia, the diet is both restrictive and with a higher intake, and the weight is kept above the underweight, to differentiate it from anorexia. Both in anorexia and in bulimia there can be compensatory episodes such as the usual vomiting or the use of medications to purge.
