We can help you overcome Depression

What is depression?

Sadness and melancholy are two feelings that may be present at some point in the life of all people and are not pathological per se, but on some occasions they can be so for certain people. When the state of mind of a person in a certain period of life presents severe and prolonged in time feelings of sadness or related symptoms that affect the ability to relate to others, work, or face the day, sadness becomes an illness, which is known as depression. Depression is a debilitating condition, causing a constant feeling of sadness, so you have to seek help and treat it.

Symptoms of depression

The most common symptoms of depression in adults are:

  • Sad mood, no motivation to do things, loss of enthusiasm and energy. The person may – feel sad, hopelessly empty but may also feel irritable.
  • Marked decrease in interest or capacity to feel pleasure in all or almost all activities;
  • Significant weight loss without dieting or weight gain. Loss or increase of appetite almost every day. Note: In children, the failure to achieve the expected weight gains must be assessed;
  • Insomnia or hypersomnia almost every day;
  • Psychomotor agitation or slowing almost every day (observable by others, not just feelings of restlessness or being sluggish);
  • Fatigue, tired feeling from loss of energy almost every day;
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt (which can be delusional) almost every day (not the simple self-blame or guilt about being sick);
  • Decreased ability to think or concentrate. Difficulty in making decisions;
  • Constant negative thoughts that could turn into thoughts of suicide.

Types of Depression

Depression can be mild, moderate, or severe.

  • Recurrent depressive disorder.
  • Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder: A chronic and persistent irritability with frequent verbal and behavioral outbursts, such as aggressiveness towards objects, oneself, and other people. It is found in higher rates in men and school-age children than in women and teenagers.
  • Major Depressive Disorder: Feeling of emptiness, sadness, and hopelessness during most of the day. Significant decrease in pleasure from all or almost all activities. It can occur with weight increase or decrease, insomnia or hypersomnia, psychomotor agitation or retardation, fatigue or loss of energy, decreased ability to think, concentrate and make decisions, recurrent suicidal ideas, and fear of death.

How to treat it at Neuroscenter?

At Neuroscenter we offer you our alternative, non-invasive and highly effective treatments for Depression, Neurofeedback and EMDR. In addition, to evaluate depression in our patients, we perform cerebral topographic mappings (EEG).

Benefits of Neurofeedback and EMDR Treatments for Depression

We can diagnose the type of depression according to the waves and the affected area seen in the brain mapping, which allows us to to develop an individualized treatment. With EMDR, we desensitize and reprocess traumas and difficult situations that interfere with brain function, causing continued suffering. Through brain training (Neurofeedback) we change the recurrent unconscious patterns in order to improve the activation of neurotransmitters and consequently improve brain chemistry (activated by brain waves).

In the following brain map you can observe the changes, before and after the Neurofeedback treatment:

Neurometabolic Study

The metabolism of serotonin is a fundamental piece when approaching depression. We determine the activation level of these neurotransmitters and of quinolinic acid. We study the intestinal microbiota, since 90% of serotonin is produced at the intestinal level and changes in the intestinal microflora can generate problems in its metabolism. We also evaluate processes of Hepatic detoxification. We try to minimize the use of drugs and treat depression by addressing aspects related to the improvement of neuronal physiology.

You can make an appointment at Neuroscenter if you suffer from this condition. Remember that “Loving yourself is the beginning of a life-long romance” (Oscar Wilde).
